Top 10 Indian Television Shows for October 2013

Hello ladies! Yet another countdown has begun to analyze and assess the performance of Indian television shows. The time when TRPs of shows are revealed is probably the most anticipated period of the month. Last month saw the drastic ups and got down in the ranking of the shows, and this month isn’t an exception to the rule as it has some surprising and shocking variations in rankings. Besides, many new shows that hit the screens last month have been successful enough to enthrall the viewers and have made a place in the Top 10.

So, which shows have made it amongst the top 10 shows for October 2013; watch it out as I reveal the names in the reverse order:

#10- Qubool Hai (Star Plus)

This show has been doing quite well over a period of time, but now it seems that viewers want something more dramatic and interesting to watch the show. The show has fallen in rankings drastically from Top 3 to Top 10. The show is about to celebrate its first anniversary on 29th October 2013, i.e. exactly one year from the date the show was being launched. The team really needs to work upon thing to bring it on track once again.

#9- Mahabharat (Star Plus)

It seems that Star Plus is becoming quite popular amongst masses once again. It is all set to repeat the era when it created the magic by grabbing the maximum viewership on Indian television and created a history.  Also, Mahabharat is all set to create the history of the older epic. Mahabharat that was being shown during 1990s became an epic because of the perfect direction, cinematography, costumes, and acting of all the actors, and now this one is following the same track. The show is progressing gradually and has a potential to reach much higher in rankings.

#8- Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus)

top-hindi-tv-serials-2013-3

Generally people get bored and pissed as a show gets older, but Yeh Rishta…… has maintained a strong Rishta with its viewers. The show incepted in January 2009 and will be completing 5 years in 2014. This is one of the few shows that shows things as they happen or would have happened in anyone’s married life, and this is the main reason that people are still following it (including me) till date, and I think it has a long way to go.

#7- Comedy Nights with Kapil (Colors)

Colors has not been doing well from quite some time now. Comedy Nights with Kapil is ranked at no 2 amongst shows on Colors, but has managed to top the reality (non- fiction) shows. Comedy Nights…… was placed much higher, but something has gone wrong definitely that has pushed it at number 7th spot. But, I am sure that the show that has a potential to unite your whole family for a dose of laughter has a long way to go and reach at number 1 amongst all the shows.

#6- Saath Nibhana Saathiya (Star Plus)

Saath Nibhana Saathiya is one of those who have created a history. This show was started at 7 P.M. slot when most of the women are busy preparing dinner, and hardly any of them watch shows during that time. But, Saath Nibhana…… spilled the beans by becoming the number #1 show at that point of time. In fact, it remained the most watched show for a long period of time. Still, it is running at number 6th after three and half years, which I think is not bad at all.

#5- Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara (Star Plus)

The show incepted in June 2012, and since then it has been doing well on television. Rajshri Productions has been coming up with great shows every time, and this one’s not an exception. The show portrays that how younger generation deals and copes up with relationships. It deals with two people who are entirely different in opinions and views, and the story begins where the two meets each other.

#4- Balika Vadhu (Colors)

Amongst all the shows in the rankings, this one is the oldest, and I am glad that it is still running and placing so high on TRPs. Again, the reason must be the same – natural portray of the story without adding fakeness or overhyping things. Creative team of Balika Vadhu has been consistently putting the creative elements, and interestingly, they come up with a new issue every time that not only entertains you, but teaches you and leaves a message for you, be it child marriage, divorce or coping up with in-laws. I must say that it is a complete package show, and it truly deserves to be this high.

#3- Jodha Akbar (Zee TV)

There was a time when the only channel that viewers wanted to see was Zee TV. I remember when I was  a kid I used to watch a lot of shows on Zee, like Hum Paanch, The Zee Horror Show, and  a lot. But, now Zee has fallen in terms of TRPs and the possible reason could be that it has introduced more non-fiction shows than fiction, and Indian audiences are any day fonder of watching masaledar stuff than non-fiction material (Comedy Nights….. is exception though). But, Jodha Akbar is now doing pretty well. The show was declared as flop and makers were all set to pull it off air post Deepawali, but all of a sudden, things have changed for the show, and it has reached on no #3 spot in the race.

#2- Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (Sab TV)

top-hindi-tv-serials-2013-4

The only show from Sab TV, and the only comedy show to make it to the Top 3. I don’t know that from where they manage to bring so much humor in the show even after 5 years in a row. It is being watched by everyone from 10 year old to 70 year old in family and undoubtedly, it has what it takes to be here.

#1- Diya Aur Baati Hum (Star Plus)

top-hindi-tv-serials-2013

Ah! This is called the perfect consistency. This show is doing terrifically well since the day it was launched. An interesting storyline with perfect portray of characters by artists has made this show reach at #1 in the rankings. The struggle of a girl to become an IPS officer is quite thrilling and interesting to watch.

Let’s have a statistical look on top shows from each channel and the graph of channels:

No of shows in Top 10 (Star Plus): 6

No of shows in Top 10 (Colors): 2

No of shows in Top 10 (Zee TV): 1

No of shows in Top 10 (SAB TV): 1

No of shows in Top 10 (Sony): Nil

Top show on Star Plus: Diya Aur Baati Hum

Top Show on Colors: Balika Vadhu

Top Show on Zee TV: Jodha Akbar

It is clearly shown that Star Plus is doing tremendously well amongst all the other channels with showcasing only fiction and fiction shows. Colors stands next to it, but there’s a considerable margin with only 2 of its show in the race. There will new entries in the TRP charts as new shows have started that are grabbing TRPs (24 & Bigg Boss 7 on colors). So, I guess colors will have a head to head battle with Star Plus, but for October, Star Plus is the undisputed winner.
