The Alchemist


The Alchemist- by Paulo Coelho was originally written in Portuguese. The book was being translated in different languages and has won the Guinness World Record award.

The story is about a shepherd boy- Santiago. He is an Andalusian, who is known as, Alchemist. He dreams about travelling the world, and about discovering the treasures. He has the courage to walk towards his unfulfilled desires. To judge, what his destiny had to offer, he travels from Spain (his home) to the market of Tangiers, and to the Egyptian desert. Throughout the journey, he meets different people, learns different languages, experiences love, get duped, makes and loses money, finds himself in some pleasant and some unpleasant situations. He meets to a king, and an alchemist (who talks about personal legends). They add a new perception in their life. Alchemist asserts, “Those who don’t understand their personal legends, will fail to comprehend its teachings”.

This novel, by Paulo Coelho, tends to add positivity in life, and helps in seeing the life with a bigger perspective. One shouldn’t go out for searching happiness because it might be lying right in your backyard.
