Peshawari Chana

A rich and spicy preparation made with Indian spices and chick peas immersed in spices.

Ingredients

  • Salt to taste 
  • 3/4 cup tomatoes chopped
  • 2 tsp tea leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tblp coriander powder
  • 2 green chillies (slit)
  • 1/2 cup onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp chana masala
  • 1 cup chick peas
  • 1 bay leaf

Method

  • Do not forget to soak the kabuli channa overnight.
  • Boil chanas and tea leaves in water and boil till chanas are dark and soft.
  • Strain and store the water.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaf, chopped onions and sauté till golden.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies with chopped tomatoes.
  • Sprinkle red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder and garam masala.
  • Add the boiled chanas with 1 cup of water simmer till the gravy is easily absorbed by the channas.
  • Add garam masala and garnish with coriander.
