For some, the title may seem like a dreary one or not much to talk about—– except female massacre, afflictions, dilemma and nothing else. Sure, we concur but, not in a monotonous way. And why we should not speak about it? We surely can’t close our eyes as our ‘mera bharat Mahaan’ country also leads in female persecution like other misdemeanors. Females around us are stretched tight, harassed and are striving hard even to attain the essentials. The hunger of dowry keeps the newly-wed still on fire. From under teens to adult women, every age group has heaved under the brutal sin of rape. And, various other ferocities which is still going on!

So, what do you think? One and all are similar. Keeping shut! Trailing the daily routine! Adjusting with what we have! Negotiating to what happened! Nope absolutely not!!! There were and are humans with real emotions. They’re the people amongst us who’ve transformed the lives of millions. Yes, in this BPL claimed country, there’re intellectuals and activists who’ve given a life to feminist movement.

As per wiki,

Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. In addition, feminism seeks to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist is “an advocate or supporter of the rights and equality of women.

From the Nair’s of Kerala to Maratha race and the earlier Bengali families, all of them have substituted their family heads under female’s dominance. This was amid some of the instances of feminist movement in India. Though, with time theoretical direction of Feminism has changed quite a number of times in historical and cultural contexts, perceptions, levels of consciousness, actions, and women as a collection or individual, both. The commonly suggested definition will clarify more on this as “An awareness of women’s oppression and exploitation in society, at work and within the family, and conscious action by women and men to change this situation”.

Not necessary! If we’re discussing about feminists movement all the honour will go to women only. In fact, we’re conceited that, it was men who first took the charge to tussle against this evil. Raja Ram Mohan Roy while combating for numerous other issues fought to eliminate Sati Pratha which boosted the conscious of others too. In addition, females not of all the phases have felt the chauvinism in our country. If that was the case, how come you see the emergence of the heiress Rani Laxmi Bai or Ruzia sultan? But, the Gandhian policies stressing upon activists movements for Indian women aroused consciousness about their rights and empowered to take the further steps in the constitution of India.

How it commenced and struggled to explore more on this, read on our next piece will focus on the concept and issues pertaining to Feminism.
