DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

You don’t need to spend tones on laundry detergents anymore! Don’t worry, it’s not like your clothes will never see soap and smell dirty all the time, just that you will now know how to make wonderful smelling and easy to make laundry detergents on your own. So, those frequent stop-bys at the supermarket store to grab a handful of detergent will not have to be made. Instead, you can easily divert that time to doing something more constructive, like preparing your very own soap. And also, a number of laundry detergents contain chemicals, such as sulfates, phenols, and petroleum distillates, which are known to cause deadly diseases. Scary, isn’t it? Well now, you don’t need to lose sleep as far as your laundry is concerned. Here is a super fun idea to make your own soap. Let’s get started, what say ladies?





Things You will Need

  • Washing soda
  • Borax
  • A bar of soap
  • Water

You can pick washing soda and borax from any grocery store in your local area. As far as, a bar of soap is concerned, there are plenty of options to choose from, but, we suggest something that is not too fancy and is more natural.

Let’s just make a brief introduction of the products listed above, so that, you will know the ingredients that actually go into the making of your detergent.

Washing soda (don’t confuse it with baking soda) is also known as soda ash or sodium carbonate. It is composed of limestone and common salt. It removes odors and dirt and looks like white powder. Borax is made of oxygen, sodium, boron and water. It is a naturally occurring mineral, found in most natural soaps. It also looks like white powder and is used as a deodorizer and laundry whitener. Natural soaps contain pure organic oils and smell mild.

To freshen up your clothes even more, you can add a few tablespoons of baking soda.


Step 1- Grate a bar of soap using a food processor or cheese grater.


Step 2- Place the grate soap in a pan along with 2 quarter of water and heat it gradually.


Step 3-Add borax (1 cup) and washing soda (1 cup) to pan.


Step 4- Stir continuously until, the soap gets completely dissolved.


Step 5-  Now, take a bucket that can hold 5 gallons of water (you can pick them up from thrift stores or grocery stores). Pour approximately 4.5 gallons of very hot tap water in the bucket.


Step 6- Now, pour the soap mixture that you’d made in the pan to the bucket. Stir it well.


Step 7- Cover it and leave for a night.


Step 8- Shake it well and stir it until, it becomes a smooth liquid.


Step 9- Pour this mixture into a container or gallon jugs.


Step 10- Depending on the laundry; use half to one cup in a single load.
