  • Sponges
  • A flat table for printing
  • Foam or carpet underlay
  • Felt
  • Fabric- we prefer cotton for natural dyes.
  • Textile paint or natural dyes, mixed up with thickener
  • Printing blocks

Step#2- Arrange Fabric onto the Table

You have to assemble all the fabrics carefully onto the flat table. Firstly, staple the carpet underlay tightly over the table, followed by felt. In the end spread the cotton fabric to be block printed onto the felt.

Step#3- Pin and Iron Your Fabric

Now, as you have layered all the three fabric, you have to pin up them properly, followed by ironing them. Ironing flattens your fabric and removes wrinkles, which makes the process a lot easier.

Step#4-Dab Paint onto the Dye

Squeeze a blob of fabric paint into the tray or a bowl, and dab the sponge into it, ensuring that the whole sponge is covered sufficiently with the paint or dye. You can also paint the dye over the sponge, with the help of a painting brush.

Step#5- Painting the Block

Next is to paint the block. You have to take the block of desired shape and size, and press it firmly over the sponge so that it takes the paint from the sponge. Press it as many times as possible so that it absorbs the colour properly.

Step#6- Printing the Fabric

Once you have your block ready with paint on it, it is time for you to transfer that paint onto fabric through block. Press the block firmly and evenly over the fabric, so that paint gets transferred to the fabric all at once. While you press the block over fabric, hold it down for a few seconds and then remove gently.

Step#7- Continue

As you have completed printing with the first block, you can continue the same process for other blocks as well, trying on a variety of blocks and vibrant colours.

In order to make the colour to adhere permanently to the fabric, you need to iron on the reverse side of the fabric. As the colour gets dried, you should wash the fabric with detergent in alternating temperatures. It will make the colour to stick to the fabric. Now, dry the fabric under the bright sun-light for best results.

Tip: As you are finished with the painting process, do not let paint to rest on the blocks. Rinse the blocks properly with the toothbrush or other bristle brush.
