Who dislikes a good smell? From signature perfumes to car purifiers, we have tones of options that give us amazing fragrances, making us pick from a plethora of scents, such as rose, sandalwood, lavender, musk, lily, citrusy, etc to name a few. In such a situation, how can our homes be left behind? Whether you believe it or not, each house has its own peculiar smell- some may smell fresh, light and sunshiny, while others may reek of a stale, musty odor. And since we get so used to living in that space, we seldom realize what it is that our house actually smells of.

While the stores are lined with products that promise to fill your abode with your favorite fragrances, very often they cost way more than their rightful price. Room sprays, aromatic candles, air fresheners, sometimes create multiple smells, even introducing not so friendly chemicals in your home.

However, it looks like you can now create your own signature scents by following these super fun and easy ideas (Another bonus? Well, they are smooth on your pocket, too).

1. The ‘Personalized Air Freshener’

Things you will need-

  • A mason jar
  • A pot
  • Some water
  • Fruits, herbs and spices of your choice.

Basic Procedure- Cut the fruits of your liking and put them in water. Add other spices and herbs. (Read the next paragraph to know what you can include). Now fill the pot with 3/4th water and leave it to boil. When well boiled, lower the heat and leave it to simmer.

Some Ideas that You Can Use- For fruits, you can pick oranges, pineapples, etc. Other recipe items can be peppermint, clove, rosemary sprigs, ginger, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, coconut or almond extract, lemon, mint, etc.

2. The Orange Air Freshener

Things you will need-

  • 1 clean spray bottle
  • Baking soda (1 tablespoon)
  • Distilled water (2 cups)
  • Essential oil of a scent (scents) of your choice (10 drops)

Take the baking soda in a bowl and pour some essential oil on it.

Now, mix the baking soda and oil together, with the help of a fork. This will aid in keeping the oil balanced in the water.

Using a funnel, pour the mixture in your spray bottle and top it off with distilled water. Shake the bottle before use. You can even label it if you want to.

These easy, homemade air freshener recipes are great to keep your house smelling fresh and welcoming. Not only will they not burn a whole in your pocket, they are also free of any harmful chemicals and other unwanted substances that are injurious to one’s health.

While there are a lot of ideas that can help you create different types of air fresheners, the ingredients that are typical of most of them have been discussed above (refer idea number 1).

So, here’s to breathing happy!
