Is your child facing difficulty in passing bowel? Does he/she have to strain for eliminating bowel? Is he/she passing hard and dry stool? If so, your toddler is suffering from constipation. Lack of fibers in the food, dehydration, formula milk, and solid foods may be the reason of baby constipation. Well, you need not to rush to a doctor to get your child treated! You can cure this problem easily at your home.
Below are some baby constipation home remedies that will really help your child.
1. Spinach Rice
Take some green gram (Moong dal). Cook with spinach and rice. Now, take a pan. Put a few drops of oil in it. Put the cooked mixture of dal, rice, and spinach in it. Cook for 4-5 minutes. Give it to your baby. This remedy will help your kid in getting rid of constipation.
2. Cabbage Rice
Boil some rice. Pour a few drops of oil in a pan. Add a pinch of turmeric to it. Put onion and cabbage in the oil. Cook for some time. Give it along with rice to your baby. You will see the effect within 1-2 hours.
3. Orange Juice
Extract the juice of fresh orange. Add some water to it, to make it dilute. Give it to your child. This remedy will help the baby in passing bowel.
Note- As orange juice is cool, give it in summer or during the noon in winters.
4. Dry Grapes
Soak 5-6 dry, red grapes in water. Leave them for the entire night. In the morning, these grapes will get swollen. Squeeze and extract the juice. It will be 2-3 spoonful juice. Give it to the infant. It will help in bowel movements. This is the best home remedy for baby constipation.
5. Ginger Root/Liquorice
Prepare an infusion of ginger root or liquorice (mulhati). Add honey to sweeten it. Give your infant the sips of this infusion, 2 or 3 times a day. Continue the process until it eases constipation.
6. Ground Flaxseed (Alsi)
Flaxseeds are natural laxatives. Sprinkle them on the food of your toddler, when he/she is suffering from constipation. If your kid is 2 or more year old, you can give one tsp. of flaxseeds, every day.
7. Warm Bath
Pour semi-hot water in the baby’s bath tub. Add 2-3 tsps. of baking soda in it. Mix it well. Put the baby inside the tub. Allow him/her to remain in the tub for 10 minutes. It will help your child in getting rid of constipation. If necessary, repeat it twice a week.
- Replace commercial cereals, cakes, biscuits, and white bread with brown rice and wholemeal bread.
- Drinking milk in excessive quantity is one of the reasons of constipation in children. Replace milk with dilute fruit-juices and oat milk.
- Add more fibers to your baby’s diet. Include spinach, peas, pears, plums, peaches, and apricots in the diet.
