Monsoon creates an aura of freshness and energy around us. It is perhaps the most romantic and most liked season of the year. But, besides bringing in so many positive things in life, it brings along some ailments that can affect a person’s health. It is not just the season of freshness, but also the season of diseases such as viral infections, cough (wet and dry), cold, and many others. We should take a lot of protection while going out in rains, as a drizzling may also cause some serious problems to health.
We have often noticed that viral fevers during monsoons are quite often followed by cough and cold. Cold might get cured in 3-4 days, but cough is the biggest problem that sticks to our body like glue. It actually gets glued because of our irresponsible attitude towards health. We get drenched in rains without bothering about our health, drink cold water despite of changing weather, sleep with air conditioners and room coolers on, when a ceiling fan is sufficient.
Today, I am going to discuss the problem of cough, especially dry cough, its causes, and simple home remedies to cure it. Cough is basically of two types: dry cough or non productive cough, and chesty or productive cough. Dry cough is called as non productive because it does not produce any sputum. It is often experienced with an uncomfortable and tickling sensation in the throat. Generally, such coughs last for 2-3 weeks, but if you don’t take proper precautions, they can last for much longer period of time.
Causes of Dry Cough
Dry cough is occurred post infections such as cold, viral fevers, flu or sinus infection. It can also be caused if a person is exposed to irritants such as dust, smoke, fumes, or has allergies or asthma. This can cause inflammation of the throat.
