4 Effective Home Remedies for Cleaning Silver

How infuriating it is when you take out your silver jewellery that perfectly match with your outfit, from your box, and find it tarnished! Well, you need not to get your silver polished every time, to remove the tarnish! You can do it within a few minutes, at home, using the ingredients available in your kitchen.

Here are some effective home remedies for cleaning silver and getting the sparkling shine back:

1. Baking Soda

Take some baking soda. Add water to prepare a paste. Wet a sponge. Apply the prepared paste on this damp sponge. Rub it gently on the silver. After a few minutes, rinse with water.

If the silver is poorly tarnished, keep the paste for one hour or more (if needed). Then, cleanse with a wet sponge. Then, wash with water and rub dry.

2. Toothpaste

Rub a small amount of toothpaste on the silver. Wash with water after 10-15 minutes. Dry it completely. This home remedy will retain the natural shine of the silver.

Note: Instead of just any toothpaste, utilize plain white toothpaste.

3. Salt, Baking Soda and Aluminium Foil

In two cups of water, add 2 Tsp., each of table salt and baking soda. Stir well. Place an aluminium foil at the base of a cooking vessel. Place silver in this vessel. Pour the solution and put the vessel on the medium heat. Allow it to boil for 3-5 minutes. Then, rinse the silver thoroughly. This home remedy will easily remove the severe silver tarnish.

4.  Dish Detergent

Take a bowl and line it with an aluminium foil. Place silver on the foil. Mix the dish-detergent in hot water. Pour this solution in the bowl. Let it set for 12-15 minutes. Wash it thoroughly and rub with a dry cloth.
