Friend’s birthday treat, trying out the new restaurants, weddings, and parties are some of the occasions when we can’t resist ourselves from hogging that delicious and yummy food.  Sometimes, it results in indigestion (also known as dyspepsia). The symptoms of indigestion are acid taste in your mouth, burning sensation in stomach, formation of gas, vomiting, nausea, and bloated stomach. Before taking a pill to get the relief, you should try home remedies that are natural and harmless.

1. Baking Soda


Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Drink it. It will ease the stomach ache, reducing indigestion.

2. Coriander


Take ½ glass of buttermilk. Mix roasted coriander seeds in it. Gulp that two times a day. Else, grind ginger, cloves, and cardamom seeds. Add the roasted coriander to this mixture. Consume it twice a day. It will provide quick relief from indigestion.

3. Ginger


Cut the fresh ginger into small slices. Sprinkle some salt on it. Chew. It will stimulate the digestive enzymes and juices, thereby improving the indigestion. Else, drink ginger tea to get rid of stomach ache, gas, cramps, and bloating. For making ginger tea, add ½ tsp of crushed ginger to 1 cup of hot water. Boil for 4-5 minutes. Ginger tea is ready. You can also add ginger to your food.

4. Peppermint


Take a glass of water. Add few drops of peppermint extract to it. Drink it. It will calm down the stomach ache.

5. Cumin


Add a tsp of cumin (Jeera) powder to a glass of water. Drink it. It is an instant remedy to get rid of stomach ache, caused due to indigestion.

6. Carom Seeds(Ajwain)


Take a tsp of carom seeds. Add a pinch of black salt to it. Consume it along with water.

7. Fennel(Saunf)


Munch on fennel seeds. Alternatively, take a cup of hot water. Add 2 tsp of crushed fennel seeds to it. Drink it. It is a very effective home remedy when indigestion is caused due to eating fatty or spicy food.

8. Lime Juice


Mix honey and 2 tsp, each of ginger and lime juice, in a glass of lukewarm water. Stir well.  Drink it after having a heavy meal. Else, mix 1 tbsp of lemon juice in 1 cup of hot water. Drink it before having a meal.

9. Water


Nothing can work better in curing indigestion than a glass of water. Drink a glass of water as you experience the symptoms of indigestion. For best results, add a tsp of honey, a few drops of ginger and lime juice, to one glass of warm water. Drink it.

10. Grapefruit


Grapefruit helps in easing the irritation in the stomach, which is caused due to indigestion. Grate the grapefruit peel. Keep them in the sun for few hours, so as to dry them. Whenever you feel stomach ache, consume ½ tsp of dried peel. It will improve the flow of digestive juices, treating indigestion.

11. Apple


Apples are the rich source of fibres that help in the appropriate functioning of your digestive system. Eat an apple without removing its peel, every day.

12. Orange


Orange contains ascorbic and citric acid that are considered good for digestion. You can either eat an orange daily or intake the fresh orange juice, before having your meal. You can also drink pineapple juice.

13. Herbal Tea


Herbal tea is a beneficial remedy for indigestion caused due to indigestion. You can try chamomile or peppermint tea or tea made up of blackberry, raspberry and mint. It will provide you an instant relief.

14. Cinnamon


Add ½ tsp of cinnamon powder to 1 cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 5-7 minutes. Drink it. It will provide you instant relief, from bloating and cramps associated with indigestion. 

15. Garlic


Crush garlic, and extract its juice. To it, add an equal amount of soya oil. Massage it on your stomach, till your skin absorbs the mixture. It is a quick home remedy for curing the indigestion. 

16. Ice


After having meal, put an ice bag on your stomach for 25-30 minutes. Alternatively, take a bath with cold water, before sleeping. It will ease your upset stomach. 

17. Apple Cider Vinegar


Mix 1-3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to herbal tea or water. Drink it. It will relax your stomach.

18. Grapes


Munch on grapes to eliminate the irritation and indigestion of the tummy.

19. Aloe Vera Juice


Drink aloe vera juice. It will detoxify your body, giving relief from indigestion.
