Due to bacterial infection, tonsils swell up and get inflamed. In medical terms, this situation is termed as tonsillitis. The symptoms of tonsillitis are headache, fever, congestion of the nasal passage, swelling in lymph nodes, breathlessness difficulty in swallowing, and sore throat. This problem may be caused due to a genetic tendency, sharp changes in temperature, and consumption of over-processed, fatty, and sugary food.

1. Figs

Take some fresh figs. Mash them. Add some honey to it. Eat it once a day. It will quickly heal the swollen tonsils. Else, boil some fresh figs. Prepare a paste by grinding them. Utilize this paste to massage the external area of the throat.

2. Ginger Juice


Mix one tsp of ginger juice with 2 tsps of warm water and 1 tsp of honey. Use it to gargle. This home remedy will provide instant relief from swelling and pain.

3. Steam Inhalation


Take water in a kettle. Heat up to boiling point. Cover your head with a towel. Sit near the kettle. Prepare a cylindrical tube with a newspaper. With the help of this tube, direct the steam to your face for breathing. It will reduce swelling of the tonsils.

4. Ice Cubes


Wrap 3-4 ice cubes in a clean cloth or towel. Put it on your throat. This cold compress will lessen the pain and swelling.

5. Honey


Take a tsp of honey. Add a pinch of pepper powder and 2-3 drops of lemon juice to it. Consume this mixture. To experience positive results, use this remedy two times a day. Alternatively, take a glass of warm water. Add lime juice and honey in it. Sip it. It will reduce nasal congestion and soothe your throat.

6. Warm Milk


To a glass of warm milk, add a pinch of black pepper powder and turmeric powder. Drink it, just before going to bed. It will relieve the swollen tonsils.

7. Salted Water


Take the warm water in a glass. Mix a Tbsp salt in it. Gargle with it, three times a day.

8. Garlic and Cayenne Pepper (Lal Mirch)


Mix ½ tsp of cayenne pepper powder, 4 garlic cloves, and a Tbsp of honey. Consume it 3-4 times a day. It will alleviate irritation of the throat and shrink the swollen tonsils.

9. Fenugreek Seeds (Methi)


Put some fenugreek seeds in water. Boil it. Strain the water and use it to gargle. This remedy will eliminate the problem.

10. Coke


Mix powdered aspirin in coke. Gargle with this mixture. It’s an effective remedy for soothing swollen tonsils.

11. Hot Tea


Add crushed ginger, basil leaves, 1-2 cloves, and a pinch of black pepper while preparing tea. Drink it hot. It will ease the discomfort.

12. Orange Juice


Mix orange juice and water in 3:1 ratio. Drink this diluted orange juice.

13. Vegetable Juices


Combine one part each of beetroot and cucumber juices, and three parts of carrot juice. Drink it. You can also drink these vegetable juices individually.
