During early pregnancy, several women experiences vomiting and nausea sensation. This is termed as morning sickness. Deficiency of mineral or vitamin, tiredness, certain foods and odour are some of the reasons that lead to morning sickness. Medications help you to ease these symptoms. However, there are several home remedies that are also very beneficial for dealing with the morning sickness.

1. Ginger


Grate some ginger. Boil it in enough quantity of water, till water decreases to half. Wait till it cools. Then, mix some honey in it. Drink it in the morning, each day. Else, chew or suck a small piece of ginger. It will also provide you quick relief. You can also prepare ginger tea. For this, crush ginger and add it to boiling water. Boil for 10-15 minutes. Strain it. Sip slowly. Don’t drink this tea thrice a day.

2. Lemon


Lemon is very effective remedy for curing the morning sickness. You can use lemon in several ways.

  • Suck a freshly cut lemon.
  • Chew the lemon flavoured candy.
  • Take fresh lemon peels and smell it.
  • Extract the fresh lemon juice. Mix in a glass of water. Drink it each morning.
  • Mix mint juice and lemon juice. Add some sugar to it. Drink it thrice a day.

3. Curry Leaves


Extract the juice of some curry leaves. Add 1 tsp of sugar or honey, and 2 tsp of fresh lemon juice to it. Mix properly. Drink it 2-3 times a day. It will give you the respite from vomiting.

4. Bael Fruit


Take out the juice of one bael fruit. Cook some rice. Pour 3-4 tbsp of juice to rice. Consume it once each day. If you are suffering from severe morning sickness, eat it 2-3 times a day. Along with morning sickness, it is also a good remedy for constipation.

5. Cheese


Consume mozzarella cheese, cottage cheese or cheddar cheese, to get rid of the symptoms of morning sickness. You can also prepare cheese salad with vegetables and fresh fruits.

6. Fennel


Fennel seeds provide you a fast relief from morning sickness. Chew one tsp of fennel seeds, after having a meal. Else, prepare fennel tea by adding 1 tsp of crushed fennel seeds to 1 cup of boiling water. Steep it for a few minutes. Strain the tea. Add a tsp of honey and 3-4 drops of fresh lemon juice to it. Sip it. It is the best home remedy for treating nausea, caused due to morning sickness.

7. Water


Drink one glass of water every hour. You can also take water rich vegetables and fruits like oranges, pears, apples, grapes, celery, tomatoes, carrots, and melons. To keep your body hydrated, suck the frozen fruit bars.

8. Potato Chips


Munch on homemade potato chips. You can also try fat-free potato chips available in the market. The salt present in the chips, dries up the saliva, thereby curing morning sickness.

9. Peppermint


Peppermint helps in calming the stomach and reducing the symptoms of morning sickness. Put 1 tbsp of peppermint leaves in 1 cup of boiling water. Boil for 10-12 minutes on low flames. Then, strain it. Before sipping it, add some honey or sugar. Pour 4-5 drops of peppermint oil on a clean cloth or handkerchief. Inhale the smell. Another option is to suck on the peppermint candies.

10. Peanut Butter


Peanut butter and other protein rich foods such as- dairy products and nuts are also effective in easing the morning sickness.

11. Vitamin B6


To combat morning sickness, take 10 to 20 mg Vitamin B6 thrice a day.

Note: Don’t take more than 75 mg of Vitamin B6, on the daily basis.

12. Fruit Bars


Sucking on fruit bar is also a good remedy, for treating the morning sickness.

Important Tips:


  • Avoid fatty, processed, and fried foods.
  • It is easy to digest the smaller meals. Therefore, instead of 3 large meals each day, eat smaller meals.
  • Don’t remain on an empty stomach. Eat at regular intervals of time.
  • Eat something (like nuts, toast or a fruit), when you get up in the morning.
  • Keep yourself away from strong smells, chemicals, and damp or mouldy environment.
