As a parent, it’s heartbreaking to see your baby crying due to inflammation caused by diaper rashes. Diaper rashes can occur when the baby is left with a soiled diaper for a very long time, or when you diaper your tot very tightly, which hinders the air flow. Blisters and irritation on the skin of baby’s diaper area, and redness of baby’s bottom and genital region are some of the symptoms of diaper rashes. You can treat it and get back the smile of your little one, with the help of home remedies.

Here are some home remedies for clearing diaper rash.

1. Aloe Vera


Take an aloe vera leaf. Cut it in two parts. Scrape out the gel with the help of a knife. Clean and dry the diaper area. Now, apply aloe vera gel on baby’s skin. It will soothe the soreness, healing the skin fast.

2. Corn Starch


Sprinkle the corn starch on baby’s bottom. After that, diaper your infant. This is an effective remedy for clearing the diaper rashes.

3. Coconut Oil/Olive Oil


Rub the affected area of your baby, with coconut oil. You can also use olive oil instead of coconut oil, for massaging your baby’s bottom.

4. Tea Tree Oil


Dilute tea tree oil by adding water to it. Use it on the affected area of baby’s skin.

Note- Never apply it directly to the skin of your baby.

5. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly


Gently rub Vaseline petroleum jelly on the rashes of the baby. It will provide relief to your child from pain and heal the rashes.

6. Baking Soda


Add 2 tbsps. of baking soda to lukewarm water. Use this water to soothe the painful diaper rash of your baby.

7. Yogurt


Feed your baby with yogurt (if he/she can and has no allergies) if the cause of rashes is thrush or yeast. You can also use yogurt as a rash cream and apply on the bottom of your baby.

Note- This home remedy will work, only if the rashes have occurred by thrush or yeast.

8. Chamomile Tea


Soak several chamomile tea bags in the bath water of your little one. Bathe your infant with this water. Dry your baby. Apply baking soda or cornstarch. Alternatively, put 2 chamomile tea bags in your baby’s diaper. This home remedy is very useful for treating severe diaper rash.

9. Oatmeal Bath


Add one cup of oatmeal to the bath water. Bath your baby with this water. This remedy will soothe baby’s parched skin, caused by diaper rash.

10. Grapefruit Seed Extract


It is a good home treatment for diaper rashes. Directly apply it on the rashes.

11. Milk


Soak a clean cloth in milk. Pat on baby’s bottom. It will heal the inflamed diaper rashes.

12. Flour


Take some flour in a pan. Heat it on low flames, till it turns brown. Let it cool. Apply on your baby’s bottom.

Important Tips:

  • Use a mild soap to wash the affected skin of your baby.
  • Natural light and air helps in treating diaper rash. Therefore, allow your infant go diaper-free.
  • Use non-toxic laundry detergent, especially if you use cloth diapers.
  • Clean the baby’s affected skin gently. Avoid scrubbing it.
  • As the diaper gets soiled, immediately change it.
