For several women, menstruation period can be a painful experience. In medical terms, aching menstruation is termed as “Dysmenorrhoea”. This ache may be mild to severe, and varies from woman to woman. Pain in pelvic and abdominal regions, dizziness, sweating, vomiting, and nausea are some of the symptoms of menstrual cramps. The major reason of menstrual cramps is prostaglandins hormone. Other reasons are smoking, anxiety, depression, and stress. You can get rid of this condition with the help of home remedies.
Here are some home remedies for easing menstrual cramps.
Add cinnamon to your tea, or sprinkle on your food. Its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties will ease the menstrual cramps.
Take a handful of basil leaves. Squeeze its juice. Add 2 tsp of this juice, to a glass of hot water. Mix it well. Drink it three times. Else add 2 tbsp of basil leaves to 2 cups of boiling water. Cover it tightly. Let it cool at room temperature. Drink it each hour for treating menstrual cramps.
Parsley juice is a very effective home remedy for painful cramping. For best results mix cucumber, carrot, beet, and parsley juices.
4. Hot Liquids
Drink hot water or hot herbal teas, when you feel cramps in your pelvic region. Alternatively, put a heating pad or hot water bottle on your lower abdomen. It will help in increasing the blood circulation towards this region, and relax your muscles, giving you relief from cramps.
Add wintergreen or peppermint to your tea. Drink 1-2 cups each day. Sucking on mint candy will also work best to ease menstrual cramps.
6. Coriander Seeds
Add 18-20 coriander seeds in a glass of boiling water. Boil it, until the water remains half. Allow the mixture to cool. Drink it. You can also add a small quantity of sugar while drinking it. This home remedy will prevent excess blood flow, and relieve the severe pain during menstruation.
7. Sesame Seeds
Add 2-3 tsp of sesame seeds to water. Boil it. Strain the mixture. Drink it two times a day, for effective results. It will help in easing the menstrual cramps.
Prepare black tea. To it, add 1 tsp honey, 2 tsp lemon juice, and ½ tsp crushed ginger. Drink it in regular intervals of time, during the whole day.
Take 1 tsp fennel seeds. Crush them. Add this powder to a cup of boiling water. Now, boil for 5 minutes. Strain it and drink hot.
Mix 1-2 tbsp mustard powder in warm water. Soak your feet in this water. It will relax the menstrual cramps.
Consume 2 tbsp of flaxseeds, each day during menstruation. It’s very beneficial in curing the cramp pains.
Other Important Tips:
- Take a hot bath.
- Lay down on your back. Bend your knees. It is also helpful in relieving the cramps.
- Do regular exercise to improve the blood circulation towards the pelvic region.
- Avoid the intake of refined carbohydrates.
- Reduce consumption of egg yolk and red meat.
- Eat plenty of fresh veggies and fruits.
