11 DIY Homemade Body Scrubs


Body scrubs are the best thing to get rid of dirt, dead cells and oil from your body, yet keeping it hydrated, glowing and moisturized. With the growing inflation, beauty products are not lagging behind and the companies are charging enormous amount for such products. What if the same products can be made at home, which serve you with the better results than over the counter products?


Here are the recipes of homemade body scrubs that will gently exfoliate your skin while making it glow and supple.


1.  Coffee Body Scrub


Coffee has a lot of added benefits, besides being a wake up drink. Coffee is a rich source of caffeine, which is an excellent exfoliating agent. It lifts up the stubborn dead cells from your skin while moisturizing it deeply.


  • ½ cup coffee
  • ½ cup sugar
  • I tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp salt

Mix in coffee, sugar and salt followed by rest of the ingredients, and your exfoliating coffee body scrub is ready to go.

2.  Tan Removal Lemon and Sugar Scrub


No matter how much we try to protect our skin, we tend to get tanned by those harsh sun rays and UV rays that damage and deteriorate our skin. Sunscreen can protect your skin from further damage, but cannot remove the existing tanning. Lemon has great exfoliating properties and sugar add to it. Lemon and sugar scrub is perfect for those who are seeking a clear and glowing skin that free from tan and patches.


  • 5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups olive oil
  • 2 lemons
  • 3 tbsp honey

Mix in sugar and olive oil. Squeeze lemon over the mixture, followed by honey. Mix well all the ingredients and apply to the desired or tanned areas after having a shower. Rub gently and not harshly as you may aggravate your skin by rubbing it harshly, in order to exfoliate too much. Honey used in the scrub works as a moisturizing agent, so your skin does not leave dry and flaky post application.

3.   Peppermint and Pomegranate Scrub


Since this scrub has got peppermint and pomegranate, we can expect a refreshing and zesty feel out of this scrub. Besides exfoliating, this scrub has refreshing aroma that uplifts your mood and make you feel zealous than before.


  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • Few drops peppermint essential oil
  • Pomegranate juice for refreshing red color (those who are allergic to pomegranate, may use raspberry juice)

Pour the coconut oil over the sugar quantity. Add a few drops of peppermint oil for a zesty and refreshing aroma. For the coloring, add pomegranate or raspberry juice. It is advisable that you should not add any artificial coloring agents as using natural products on your skin is the best way to pamper it.

4.  Vanilla Sugar Scrub


If you do not like the strong smell of body scrubs and want something on a subtle note, then this one is made for you.


  • 2 and ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 4-5 tbsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup almond oil

Sift together raw sugar and granulated sugar. Add in vanilla extract and almond oil. Mix well all the 4 ingredients before applying the luscious body scrub on your body.

5.  Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub


This is another great scrub with goodness of coconut and delicacy of vanilla. This is an excellent scrub for winters as it keeps the skin hydrated and moisturized, while exfoliating it to the right amount.


  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tea spoon vanilla

Mix in all the ingredients and apply the scrub while taking the shower, massaging it in a circular direction. Post application, you will be having soft, supple and glowing body from top to bottom.

6.  Citrus Scrub


Citrus scrub is another scrub to treat the tan. Besides, it has got coconut oil as an ingredients, so it keeps your body moisturized at the same time while exfoliating and removing tan out of your skin.


  • I cup sea salt
  • ½ cup raw sugar
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • A few drops grapefruit essential oil
  • A few drops sweet lemon essential oil
  • A few drops lemon essential oil

Sift together sugar and salt. Add all the essential oils into the liquid coconut oil. Apply the liquid mix of coconut oil and all the essential oils into the sugar-salt mixture. Apply to your body, massaging in a circular directions for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off.

7.  Almond Orange Scrub


Almonds are really good, especially for winter skins. Natural almond oil is highly needed by body in winters, to keep it moisturized. Orange is added to the scrub for that zesty and refreshing feel, and also orange is an excellent exfoliating agent.


  • 1 handful almonds
  • 1 orange peel
  • 1 cup olive oil

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender till they are blended completely. Apply the mixture all over your body. Rinse thoroughly after massaging for 8-10 minutes.

8.  Chocolate Scrub


Yes, I know that it sounds so yummy, and mind it that it is equally yummy for your skin as well. Chocolate has deep nourishing and moisturizing properties which make this scrub an essential and recommended exfoliating drink for your skin.


  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • ½ cup cocoa

Mix in all the ingredients together except the canola oil. Lastly, mix the canola oil and apply the scrub all over your body, massaging in the circular directions. Rinse thoroughly.

9.  Sweet and Spicy Scrub

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup almond or coconut oil
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ginger
  • 2 tsp nutmeg

Combine all the ingredients. Blend them together using a blender or a whisker. Apply the scrub all over your body, to give your body a sweet and spicy taste. Rinse thoroughly post application.

10. Vitamin E and Cane Sugar Scrub

  • I cup cane sugar
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • ½ cup virgin coconut oil
  • 2-3 tbsp virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp vitamin E oil or powder
  • A few drops of lavender essential oil for aroma

Combine all the ingredients except both the oils – vitamin E and lavender essential oil. Lastly, mix in both the oils to the mixture and apply it to your body, scrubbing gently and exfoliating the dead skin cells.

11.  Sea Salt Scrub


This one is really an ultimate scrub that you can make at home; it has got the sea salt that is not only the best exfoliating agent, but also a great detoxifying agent.


  • I cup coarse sea salt
  • ½ cup oil ( coconut, olive or almond)

Pour the oil over the salt and let the mix sit for 24 hours. Next day, apply it to your body with scrubbing and massaging gently. Do not rub harshly as it may cause irritation on your skin.
