Fever is a natural elevation of our body’s temperature. It’s our body’s weapon to fight against infections. When our immune system is attacked by certain virus or bacteria, then our body’s temperature increases, resulting into fever. A fever up to the temperature of 102 degree Fahrenheit can be treated normally through various home treatments. But, a doctor should be consulted, if it exceeds.

#1 Cool Your Fever Down
This is one of the most common and effective methods to lower down the elevated body temperature. Soak in a tub full of tepid water for around ten minutes. This will help you in providing relief from fever. But, don’t try to lower the fever more quickly by taking a bath with ice cold water. You can also sponge yourself at frequent intervals or put a wet cloth on your forehead if you are not taking a bath.
Precaution- Stop bathing and dry off, if you feel shivering while taking the bath.
#2 Hydrate Yourself
While you are down with fever, you can easily get dehydrated. Therefore, increase your fluid intake and drink at least 10-12 glasses of water during the day. You can also substitute water by fruit juices and clear broth. Give an oral rehydration solution, like Pedialyte, to children under the age of one year. These types of oral rehydration solutions prove to be very effective as they contain water and salts that are rightly proportioned to replenish the electrolytes and fluid in the body.
#3 Rest a Lot
Resting is one of the best methods to heal your fever as quickly as possible. When you have fever, your body is fighting against infections, and therefore, needs a lot of energy. So, take complete rest. An activity may raise your body temperature, thus preventing it from going down.
#4 Don’t Cover Yourself with Excessive Clothing
Once your fever is down, avoid heaping yourself with lots of clothes or heavy quilts, as it will only raise your temperature. Covering yourself with blankets will trap the heat and eventually, the fever will last longer. Therefore, cover yourself with just one light sheet if you are not going through periods of chills.
#5 Herbal Teas are Good
A lot of herbs in your kitchen cupboards can also help in bringing down the body temperature. Take a single herb or try a combination to prepare tea. Add honey to sweeten it. Drink it frequently throughout the day. You can use a number of herbs, such as yarrow, feverfew, peppermint, tulsi, pleurisy root, stevia leaf, catnip, and many more.
Cut a slice of lemon. Place it at the bottom of your feet and cover it with a wet cotton sock. Now, cover it with a wool sock. Leave it for some time. This helps in reducing the fever to a great extent.
#7 Raisin Juice
If you are suffering from high fever, raisin juice may help you a lot. Take ½ cup of water and soak 25 raisins in it. Mash these raisins into the water. Then, strain it. To it, mix juice of ½ lemon. Drink it 2 times a day.
Take two garlic cloves and crush them. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil into it. Heat the mixture and apply it under the sole of your feet. Wrap it with plastic and leave it overnight. Garlic and olive oil are very effectual in getting relief from fever. Else, boil one clove of garlic with 225 ml of water. Then, strain out the garlic. Sip the liquid slowly. It’s a good home remedy to treat fever.
#9 Try Apple Water
Take a medium-sized apple and boil it into 350 ml of water. Boil, till it softens. Strain it to remove the pulp. Sweeten it by adding honey, and drink it once it cools down.
#10 Go for Over-the-Counter Medication
You can treat your fever with several medicines, like Aspirin, Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen, which helps in reducing the fever.
