A bacterial or viral infection in the middle ear, accompanied with chronic pain and inflammation is termed as an ‘ear infection’. It generally affects the middle part of the ear at the back of the eardrum, which consists of the empty space with tiny vibrating ear bones. Children usually get ear infections more than adults. The main reason for ear infection can be an accumulation of moisture in the ear or minor injury in the ear canal. Prolonged ear infections may lead to adverse effects on the ear, such as hear-loss and severe pain. Ear infections can be treated naturally at home by various home remedies, whereas a doctor should be consulted, if the problem persists.

#1 Apply Heat to the Infected Ear
Take a warm bottle or a heating pad and press it against the infected ear. This helps in relieving the pain, and it will also prevent the further infection, caused by micro-organisms. You can also soak a clean cloth in lukewarm water and after squeezing the excess water, place it over the ear.
#2 Garlic Juice
Take out some juice of garlic by mashing it. Now, pour a few drops into the infected ear. Garlic is a great way to reduce the pain and swelling in the ear, thereby, curing the infection.
#3 Tea Tree Oil
Make a mixture of around 3 drops of tea tree oil, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp of colloidal silver. First, lie down on your side with a towel under your head. Now, put this mixture into your ear by using a dropper. Leave it for 5 minutes so that it sits down well. Now, lie down on the other side so that the mixture expel out from your ear completely. Repeat this process for at least twice or thrice for 2 days.
#4 Onion Juice
Take a small onion and chop it. Now, heat it in a microwave for about 2 minutes. Then, let it cool and strain the juice from it. Now pour 2-3 drops of it into the infected ear. Let it be for some time, and then, turn your head towards the other side in order to drain it out completely from your ear.
Alternatively, bake an onion for ½ an hour. Then, cut it into two halves. Wrap one half in a cotton cloth. Keep this cloth for 4-5 minutes on the infected ear. Repeat the process after 10 minutes.
#5 Basil Leaves
Take out the juice of 4-5 holy basil leaves. Apply the juice on or around the infected area. Ensure that it doesn’t reach the ear canal. You can also apply a mixture of holy basil oil and coconut oil by soaking it into a cotton ball. Gently wipe the infected part with this mixture. Do it twice every day.
The most easily available home remedy is salt. Take one cup of salt. Heat it in a microwave for around 3-5 minutes. Now, put it in a thick sock, and close it by tying the open end of the sock. Now, lie down and put the sock below the infected ear for about 8-10 minutes. You can repeat this process as many number of times as required. Salt gives relief from pain and swelling as well as removes excess fluid from the infected ear.
#7 Olive Oil
Slightly heat some olive oil in a pan. Pour some drops of it in the infected ear. Make sure, the oil is not too hot. Olive oil helps in the softening of the ear wax, which causes the bacteria or fungus to grow, thereby, leading to an infection in the ear. You can easily remove the softened ear wax by using ear buds. This will prevent your ear from getting more infected.
#8 Lemon Balm
Apply lemon balm on the infected ear. Lemon balm has great antiseptic qualities and therefore, quickly heals the ear infection.
#9 Mango Leaf Juice
A quick method to get relief from an ear infection is to apply mango leaf juice. Take out the juice of 2-3 fresh and soft mango leaves by crushing or grinding them. Warm it a bit, and then pour 3-4 drops in the infected ear with the help of a dropper. You will get instant relief from the ear ache. You can apply this remedy for about twice or thrice in a day.
#10 White Vinegar
Mix some white vinegar in warm water. Pour it in the infected ear, and drain it properly after some time. It’s an effective measure to cure an ear infection.
